  • Thanks heaven for little miracles...

'been a long time since my last entry...so much water washed under the bridge.  "I'm as good as new" thanks God....not A-1 new, but painless...that kind of pain I knew...for now.  Except for a little unsteadiness on my gait...I can walk without aid from ambulation devices nor pain killers. I have tried to be careful afraid to hurt myself again.  I can't afford it since "my personal nurse" is now gone. I am left on my own with constant help offered by my son Jay's ever there arms as support...when needed.  What will I do without him? He's one of my life's blessings and I can but pray for his continued caring ways.  I say a silent prayer of thanks for him whenever I could.

  • It's Nice to Come Back Home.....

It's been a long time since I, the butterfly in flight, last posted at this my home blog.  I roamed around, and is back at last.

I fluttered my wings...and while away from home... a string of events happened. My right lower limb became impaired requiring confinement in bed for weeks, nay...for several months.  Sciatica they said it was. I was in a kind of pain....one so excruciating that I would not wish it on anyone, even my worst enemy.  It kept me in bed for a few months, cared for by a hoard of medical specialists and a Filipino physical therapist named Saudi.  I was on pain management and lived on pain medication for sometime.  I endured two lumbar cortisone injections and objected to an advised third. I hobbled around with the use of canes, wheelchairs, and walkers. I willed myself to move and exercise  my ailing limb, gritting my teeth at each shoot of pain.

Gen was my nurse, a very compassionate and able one.  Jay's arm was my staff.on which I depended and leaned many a times in order to ambulate.  Izaiah was my rah-rah guy...my errand child. Ah how they helped me survive the days as I dragged myself trying to rid myself of the pain, psyching myself into recovery. I do not know how I could have made it without them.  They are the angels God sent to me....at my time of need.

Thanks to the Lord, I did overcome that depressing episode in my life. I have recovered...almost completely.  My pain medication was reduced from 4 a day to just one a day or sometimes none at all.  My walking aids are now all in storage.  I am walking once more on my own occasionally helped by the offered arms of my immediate family. I am back at work as a consultant and is able to contribute to our common household operating expenses. I feel useful again.  Thanks God ....this butterfly is now basking in the sun...in flight, hopefully for many more years to come. .

Watch the grateful butterfly fly again
Wings fluttering, away from stormy rain
Gaze at the smile now upon her face
Thankful for blessings, for God's grace.

  • A Special Treat from Gen....

Gen has her sweet moments.  In spite of her busy life style she manages to do special treats that surprise the family and makes her so dear to us.

One morning for example, I woke up to the sound of someone puttering in the kitchen.  My bedroom is nearest the kitchen so that  I've gotten used to such bustle of activities out there.  That morning I presumed it must be Gen or Jay preparing breakfast for little Izaiah.  Our little guy, a six year old, usually wakes up hungry and therefore someone has to scramble to prepare something for him.  As I think of "our little man" I imagine the poster he had pinned on the refrigerator door.  It is a sketch he made in school, a huge one, of a little boy, which he titled "A Hungry Monster". That work of art made us responsible adults in the family,  always attentive to the gastronomical need of our little Hippopotamus..

It was quite early to go out and busy myself so I lingered in front of my computer, checking and answering my e-mails. A little while later, there was a knock at my door. When I opened there was Gen with a tray of breakfast she especially prepared for me.  It was a surprise treat...a gesture that endears her to us members of this closely knit family. The love and care put in that preparation makes it the more precious for each one of us.  I learned it was not only me...there were also a tray each delivered to Jay and to Izaiah.  Each tray has its own uniqueness that matches each of the recepients.  We were so grateful of course and rightfully surprised.  For posterities' sake we pictured the trays.

This was the special tray for me, Momma, with 2 pcs of Buttermilk Pancakes made from scratch, a sunny side egg over a scoop of fried rice, 2 tiny vienna sausages, catsup, pancake syrup, a cup of fresh brewed coffee, creamer on the side, packets of sweetener, and a glass of drinking water to complete....Fantastic! Yummy for my tummy!

This is the tray for Jay with the same pancake that I had... spread with nutty chocolate jam, rolled up egg omelette, vienna sausage and maple syrup on the side.  He had a cup of coffee, creamer on the side, and a glass of fresh orange juice.  Red napkin shaped like a rose....marvelous!

Izaiah had a funny face set up on his plate, much to his delight!

Thank you Gen....you're a darling!  Muah!!!.....

  • Father's Day....

Who is that guy, that marvelous person whose day we are celebrating today? They are the unsung heroes of the household.  They head the family, bring home the bacon by themselves or as a partner to the moms of the house.  They give orders for the mothers to enforce and the children to follow.  They rule the roost with a firmness that one shouldn't question. Nevertheless, they are there to listen and to precide over a family council.  On their shoulders, the success of the family is primarily dependent.  The mothers are their queen, the right hand at the dinner table, likewise to be regarded with respect by the children of the family. He gave them his last name to honor and to uphold. The last name that is the flagship of the family. That name that should not be sullied.  It should be held up in a pedestal of dignity. He is the main man, the father, the captain of the ship. In short he is the very reason why a day like today should be set aside to honor him.

June 17 is Father's Day.  We'll get together to celebrate and give honor to the man of the family. In my family that honor goes to Jay. ...my son.  He has not a child of his own but he has adopted Izaiah out of love from his heart.  One should simply hear Izaiah say "Dad...." adoringly and one sees what a marvelous dad he has been to our  little boy.  Gen is the Mommie.  When Gen is working, when she is not available for Izaiah it is Jay who wakes up early in the morning to give Izaiah his cereal, guide him to the shower room, and sees to it that he is neatly and handsomely groomed for school.  He is the one who drives him to school for his early morning class and he is the one who takes a break from work to pick him up from school at 3 PM everyday of the week so he could be safely home. In essence he is the wonderful "father" to our little boy.  And how he loves that little whirlwind! Ah the so many "I love you Dad" drawings this little tyke has given Jay for Father's Day!  All oozing with love.  This morning he woke up perky as usual, ran to his dad and asked:  "Dad, what is your favorite color?"  Jay answered "Blue".  Izaiah went to the kitchen and came back with a cold drink he and Jay mixed out of Tang the previous evening and presented it to his dad with a flourish.  "Dad, happy father's day!  Enjoy your drink!"  On it was a blue drinking straw!  What a thoughtful little thing, a marvelous little imp!  And what a deserving father!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY JAY.....from all of us in the family

  • Come dine with me....

You are invited to dine with me  inside my garden porch.  Here amongst my plants we'll spend the hours leisurely sampling simple everyday culinary productions from my nearby kitchen.  While the breeze is softly humming round our ears, playfully curling and uncurling wisps of tendrils from our hair, we'll chat the hours away.  We'll laugh and relax sheltered within my piece of heaven on earth.  Is there a better way of unwinding from life's daily stresses?  I dare you come and enjoy the ambiance within my garden......
